WDW & Wrestlemania ~ Port Orleans Riverside

This family visit to Walt Disney World really came about by accident. Last July, we promised to take our son Jacob to Wrestlemania XXX in New Orleans. It seemed like such an innocent thing to promise … he is a huge fan and it was his birthday after all.

Flash forward to a few months later when the planning stages began. Airfare to New Orleans that weekend was, well … ridiculously expensive. And don’t even get me started on the lack of hotel rooms or the prices of those I could find that weekend. Wrestlemania XXX was proving to be a huge endeavor, clogging the city with an expected 70,000 plus fans.

I started looking at alternative plans for making this trek … as it was now known.

I have been known to ‘think outside the box’ and ‘color outside the lines’ as well as ‘go up the down staircase’ to get what and where I want. So, to my family, this idea wasn’t that much of a stretch of the imagination. We had been traveling back and forth to Florida throughout the year for our photography symposiums and I knew airfare was quite reasonable. So, I wondered … how far is a drive from Orlando to New Orleans? Well, according to Google Maps, it was a mere 9 hour drive!

And that is how I justified a family of four trip to Walt Disney World and subsequent drive to New Orleans for Wrestlemania XXX was a more cost-effective option than just simply flying to New Orleans for the weekend.

And so the adventure begins!

This trek would include myself, husband Rod, son Jacob and daughter Allie. It would be Allie’s first visit to Walt Disney World, so we were especially excited about showing the place off to her. After careful consideration, we decided to stay on property to really saturate ourselves in the Disney experience.

Port Orleans Riverside Lobby

Port Orleans Riverside was a no-brainer choice for us for four wonderful, magical, tiring, blissful, fun-filled crazy nights. It is beautiful, it offers a ‘bonus’ bed in the room and besides that … Rod and I just love this place.

We each took photos and videos on our iPhones during this trip. I have gathered all the footage together to create this trip journal of our adventure … offering everyone’s point of view. Hope you enjoy our trek!

Next up: Hollywood Studios!
