Once we finished test-driving cars, flying through space, tasting bitter sodas and finding out about our future … we ventured to the World Showcase Lagoon to begin the second part of our day. Surrounding this quiet lagoon are the 11 countries that make up World Showcase. These themed pavilions are an attraction in themselves, as Disney paid great homage … with attention to detail, activities, shopping and food … to the countries included.
The World Showcase Lagoon
We had a quest … to use what was left of our snack credits (we had nine left from the Dining Plan we purchased) and eat something from each country. These tastings proved to be a fun way to experience the cultures highlighted and became something we looked forward to as we transitioned from one country to the next. We began in Mexico and worked our way around to end in Canada. Each pavilion hosted an activity (ride, movie, exhibit), restaurants and shopping along with atmosphere. Tons of atmosphere including architecture, music and street performers. I could spend a week immersing myself here … but, we only had half a day left!
Eating around the world
- Mexico … Hongos con Queso
- Norway … Troll Horn
- China … Chicken Pancake
- Germany … Apple Strudel with Vanilla Sauce
- Italy … Limone Sorbetto
- America … Umm, we ate no snack here.
- Japan … Temaki Hand Roll
- Morocco … Harissa Chicken Kebab with Couscous
- France … Ham and Cheese Croissant
- United Kingdom … Sausage Roll
- Canada … Croissant Donut
As you can see we tasted an assortment of food and weren’t limited to just dessert items or sodas using our leftover snack credits from the Dining Plan. This was a great way to work around the countries and I look forward to returning to do it again … and taste some different items!
While our quick-paced, one park a day approach had been working so far, Epcot proved to be too large of an experience to satisfy our palates in just one day. Fortunately, we had an extra park ticket and would find it useful to finish off the park the next morning before our road trip.
We began our World Showcase tasting tour in Mexico. Allie instagrammed our beginning nicely.
The Three Amigos had a good time inside the temple. More fun happened, however, on the Gran Fiesta Tour starring the Three Caballeros, a tranquil boat ride highlighting Mexico.
Norway was next and offered loads of Frozen fun and the Maelstrom boat ride.
Trolls! Maelstrom really gets you in the mood for trolls … oh, and vikings!
China is beautifully done and has a great 360 Circle Vision film ~ Reflections of China.
Jacob, Allie and I stopped for a moment for a photo op!
The tiling was ornate and really well done.
The ceiling is what captured my attention.
The Tomb Warriors, Guardian Spirits of Ancient China exhibit is not to be missed.
Allie and Jacob … masked selfie!
Sandwiched between China and Germany is the African Outpost. While it isn’t officially a country pavilion (they have Animal Kingdom, after all) it is themed. The Flower and Garden Festival was present here … with a Rafiki and Simba topiary.
Germany was our next stop and we were surrounded by Oktoberfest fun. We had one of our best desserts here … Apple Strudel with Vanilla Sauce. It was all about that sauce.
We were greeted by Lady and the Tramp as we entered Italy.
The Limone Sorbetto (Lemon Sorbet) proved to be quite a challenge to eat … as Jacob demonstrates. It was frozen solid and oh so delicious.
Italy is a wonderfully-themed pavilion with many iconic statues, buildings and fountains.
We were halfway there once we reached the American Pavilion. We bypassed The American Adventure show for the concert featured that day in the Flower Power Concert Series ~ Paul Revere & The Raiders. This blast from the past concert was a lot of fun and we accidentally timed it perfectly!
Coming off our groovy concert buzz, we headed into Japan.
We had a lot of fun in the shop … as you can tell. Jacob and Allie morphed into Power Rangers.
Coming prepared … Allie spent some time recharging her iPhone. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
Morocco was lively with music … and a belly dancer.
The buildings in Morocco are some of my favorite. The colors, the tiling and the shops are exquisite.
Night was coming upon us as we entered France. We were hungry … tasting around the world really works up the appetite! We sat in the Bistro, surrounded by French Pastries, and taste-tested the best Ham and Cheese Croissant, ever. Ever.
We had to come back the next morning to finish the quest. Jacob here is alerting the media in the United Kingdom’s phone booth.
We stopped for a moment in the beautiful surroundings of the United Kingdom to have our photo taken.
And finally we reached Canada. Allie and Rod shared a moose and raccoon moment in the shops.
Our time in Epcot’s World Showcase and Walt Disney World had come to an end. We were about to leave and embark on our road trip to New Orleans for Wrestlemania XXX!
We each took photos and videos on our iPhones during this trip. I have gathered all the footage together to create this trip journal of our adventure … offering everyone’s point of view. Hope you enjoy our trek!
Next up: The Road to Wrestlemania!
